Milan Fashion Week: Che Confusione!

Dolce & Gabbana s/s '09
Blow-by-blow accounts of bank closings and bailout debates dominated the news during the Milan collections last week. The hot topic among editors and buyers—warily there to view fashion's prescription for moving clothes in a climate no longer teeming with a bottomless pit of consumers—was understandably the issue of selling. After the saleable prints and commercial friendly New York collections and the optimistic bright colors and sheath dresses seen in London, Milan left us puzzled and uncertain by week's end.

The shows started off promising enough at Gianfranco Ferre. Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi's debut at the house was bold in architectural shapes, stiff and precise, with loads of chic options for women to make seasonal fashion waves.  read more »

Roaring ‘Twenties

’20s style has been in the air for more than a couple of seasons now. In Milan, the trend continued for S/S 09 at Alberta Ferretti, Burberry and at Aquilano.Rimondi (formerly 6267). The latter’s collection was in stark contrast to the stiff architecture they showed at Gianfranco Ferre, but no less directional. For their own collection they opted for shiny bow tie blouses, paillette covered flapperesque dresses, and satin separates. On the streets we caught several stylistas already donning the look albeit of the low-key daytime variety.

Milan Fashion Week: Architectural Femininity

The Milan shows got underway yesterday and all eyes were on Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi’s (late of 6267) debut at Gianfranco Ferre. The duo delivered a collection that was both architectural and chicly feminine in camel, gray, black and white. Meanwhile show goers turned out in assured shapes from knitted leggings paired with structured jackets, stiff mini skirts and chunky knits, to an elegant coat dress speckled with plastic appliques.
