The Six Scents Fragrance Initiative reaches beyond sensory enlightenment by giving back to those in need. Born from a collaboration between fragrance supplier Symrise and creative consultancy Metaproject, the Initiative is an annual and ongoing charity-based project that brings together six perfumers and artists to create limited edition, original fragrances.

Paris Fashion Week: Moody Times, Bright Signs

Designers at Paris Fashion Week have born the burden of making sense out of a season that, thus far, lacked a cohesive creative direction. With the dark cloud of the economic forecast hovering overhead, the mood was mirrored by cranky editors, steel gray skies and sputtering rain that weighed on the spirit of the week. But amid this gloom, several collections showed off bright signs—a welcome message from Paris to the world.

Gareth Pugh decamped from London to show in Paris for the first time. His impeccably produced, Edwardian-influenced collection pulled in a wide international audience to witness his over-the-top showmanship—a worthy gamble that created an entertaining diversion at the start of the week.  read more »

Drafting A Finer Silhouette

If Spring 2008 fashion month was an ode to the paintbrush, Spring 2009 nodded directly at the drafting board. Architecture was all over the collections, from Proenza Schouler's literal interpretation of New York's famed Chrysler Building—in the form of a silver lame jumpsuit—to subtler references like the caged booties at Yves Saint Laurent, which reminded some of the Beijing National Stadium (known informally as The Bird's Nest).
