Onpedder is the accessories extension of Asia’s leading fashion retailer Lane Crawford. The first location is at the heart of Hong Kong’s central district – Pedder Street, hence the name.

Coinciding with the increase of accessories prominence in the luxury boom since the mid-‘90s, Onpedder is Asia’s barometer of what’s hot internationally. With stores in greater china and South East Asia, the cozy luxurious shopping destinations are humble in size but large in designer’s names; Alaia, Balenciaga, Christian Louboutin, Comme des Garcons, Givenchy, Lanvin, Pierre Hardy, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent can surly making it the Mecca for discerning international fashionistas.

Pedderzine # 4, the magazine showcasing these international trends, is out at the stores now and free for you to pick up–just ask the attendant nicely. Visually, the theme is “Worship Devotion Power,” while the contents are great shots of this season’s hit accessories.  It also includes some works from the photographer Simon Larbalestier (you might remember him from his early works for the Pixies). In a true Hong Kong spirit, one might suggest “who need contents when the packaging is this great?”

It’s A Parking Lot on Moscow’s Streets

Traffic on Moscow’s streets is a hot topic among attendees at Russian Fashion Week for its crippling effect on your shopping experience. Already this week, shopping excursions have been curtailed, if not completely dashed by the punishingly slow pace of traffic across the city even with the extra-wide, multi-lane streets. We’ve been fairly lucky to have scored a skillful driver who knows the few short cuts, but word to the wise, factor in a few more days on your trip to Moscow if you’d like to take in all on offer.

COATS! Max Mara Exhibition at NAMOC

Whether you’re posted in Beijing, or just passing through, definitely spend an afternoon at the National Art Museum of China. Currently on view is the exhibition COATS! Max Mara, 55 years of Italian fashion. The first two shows at Berlin’s Kulturforum (November 2006 – March 2007) and the Mori Arts Center in Tokyo (October – November 2007) drew quite a crowd, and now the retrospective will be travelling on to NAMOC between from now until November 12. See namoc.org for more information.

EDUN, the sustainable and socially conscious fashion label founded by U2’s Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, teamed up with VBS.tv to bring attention to Africa’s critically endangered mountain gorillas. Most of these primates live in the Bwindi National Forest — which is referred to as The Impenetrable Forest — but with the continent’s expanding population, mining, and heartless poachers, as well the geo-political turmoil in the region (the park is surrounded by Rwanda, Uganda, and the Republic of Congo), it’s not so impenetrable anymore. The vulnerable animals live in a small oasis surrounded by a war-torn region that is slowly destroying their habitat. See the VBS.tv broadcast here, and to support EDUN, check out www.edunonline.com.

Jeff Koons in Versailles

Jeff Koons in Versailles

Just a few days ago, we were in Paris attending the shows. But when we had a moment off from our busy schedule, we took in the city’s sights. Though not exactly in Paris, one of our activities was seeing the amazing Jeff Koons exhibit at Versailles, and if you’re travelling to Europe this fall make sure its a part of your itinerary.

Auckland

By JC Report

After a frenzied Air New Zealand Fashion Week, I was desperate for my chosen forms of relaxation: shopping and pigging out. The lovely and amazing Carlee, who was my VIP host for the event, managed to coax me out of my ‘Heavenly Bed’ at the Westin Hotel (no, really, that’s what it’s called) to tour Ponsonby Road, a quaint, yet hip stretch of shops, bars and restaurants. My highlights are as follows – although, for the ultimate post-show stress relief, you could always make like another journalist I met and bungee jump off the Sky Tower.

RESTAURANTS:
-GPK Restaurant: We stopped here for brunch, where we indulged in the puffiest stacks of pancakes and Eggs Benedict known to man. (262 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby, Auckland, p: 09 360 1113)
-Prego: According to several in-the-know Aucklanders, this is THE restaurant of the moment. I never made it, thanks to an (admittedly tacky) preference for free champagne and canapés – but totally trust their judgment. (226 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby, Auckland 1011, p: 09 376 3095)

BARS:?-Bonita: This rustic wine and tapas bar is my idea of perfection: small, intimate, oozing with Spanish charm (but sadly, no Spanish boys). (242 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby, Auckland, p: 09 376 5670)

SHOPPING:
-Miss Crabb: While the offerings on the runways veered towards the commercial, Miss Crabb is a deliciously avant-garde breath of fresh air with a brash London edge. (41 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby, Auckland, p: 09 361 3322)
-Zambesi: Not only does the shop carry its namesake line, but also those of Nom*D, Martin Margiela and Rick Owens. (169 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby, Auckland, p: 09 360 7391)

HOTELS:?-Mollie’s Hotel: A bit further afield from Ponsonby, another international journalist took a room here after the shows – it’s a romantic, yet ultra stylish boutique hotel. (6 Tweed Street, St. Mary’s Bay, Auckland, p: 09 376 3489)
