Diane von Furstenburg in Tokyo

A new Diane von Furstenburg shop opened doors in the Roppongi Hills mega shopping complex on Friday. The shop is a cozy two-stories tall, and sits on the quaint Keyakizaka Street. To celebrate, Sanei Intl. threw a day-long preview event for press, and then took it upstairs in the evening for a party at the super hip Mado Lounge on the observatory deck. The lounge boasted breathtaking views of the city, and modern minimalist library decor.

The DvF party assembled a good crowd despite competing with the opening of the WuT Germany boutique, and Bulgari accessories line kickoff reception the same night. But what those parties didn’t have were the head of lines themselves-because Ms. DvF herself made a very rare appearance in Tokyo to celebrate. She spent the majority of the evening taking photos with everyone who asked, turning it into a big photo session with the Japanese press, most wearing a DvF wrap dress, including some *gasp* in the same dress. The night kicked up a notch when the current top model/it-girl Jessica Michibata (some may recognize her from The Rachel Zoe Project) made a brief appearance. The designer was extremely obliging and seemed to be enjoying herself immensely, though hardly bothering to speak much and instead smiling for the camera. Revelers went home with a massive DvF candle — and a collection of souvenir photos in their memory cards.
