YOSH’s Euphoric Scents

By JC Report

It’s difficult not to be drawn to a display of YOSH perfumes: the line-up of tiny, gorgeously cut, unmarked glass bottles looks mysterious and magical. Based on the transformative and healing powers of aromatherapy, perfumer Yosh Han takes her craft seriously, creating each fragrance in small batches by hand. While only 20% of people consider smell as their “primary” sense, following her nose was a case of kismet for Han—the Chinese character for Yosh literally means “fragrant.”

Han likens the six scents in her Luxury Elements collection to a comprehensive wardrobe. Each fragrance is constructed with a different weight, occasion and mood—not to mention chakra—in mind. The purest and lightest one of them all, Sottile 1.61, a simple combinant of tea roses and lily of the valley, plays the role of the classic tailored white shirt—it can be an everyday foundation or effortlessly feminine. Meanwhile, U4EAHH! 2.43 (the word “euphoria” IM-style), a concoction of fruity freshness spiked with pomegranate, is like that amazing YSL floral silk chiffon tunic that you found at an out-of-the-way consignment shop—a bright, one-of-a-kind find.
