James Deeny is the affable and popular Attache de Presse Collection Homme for Dries Van Noten in Paris. Originally from Ireland, Deeny made the move to Paris four years ago for a job with Assouline. After a year at iconic publishing house, however, Deeny left to work for Dries Van Noten, learning the art of charming and efficient design. If you are looking for a “piste” or a recommendation of the best to do in Paris, James Deeny is one of the best people to have in your contact list.
What’s hot right now?
The new Pharrell and Mirwais produced Uffie album. Loving N.A.S.A’s last album (great collaborations with Lykke Li and Santigold). Also always keeping track of what Monocle‘s Tyler Brûlé’s movements are; the man just can’t slow down. Word is that Marlybone is gonna be a very interesting London town over the next year. Discreet elegance. The color green—always!! And I can’t wait to see photographer Tim Walker’s directorial debut.
What meanswear collections did you like last season?
Dries Van Noten, Bottega Veneta, Lanvin and Simon Spurr.
What’s an ideal day in Paris?
Waking up at around 11am. Strolling over to St Germain for a Chicken Burger at Coffee Parisien (I\it’s the soy mayo that makes it so good). A café crème with friends at the Cafe de Flore. A walk through the Latin Quarter and over the river by Notre Dame into the Marais. Time to check out what’s happening at some of the galleries on rue Vieille du Temple, it’s a nicer alternative to the big museums and never any queues. RDV with friends for another coffee at the Cafe du Marché on Rue de Bretagne—I prefer it to the crazier Cafe Charlot accross the way, not only for it’s friendly service but also for the far superior people watching. Home for a quick leaf through Vanity Fair and disco nap. Dinner at either Les Vitellonis at Carreau du Temple or Derriere on rue des Gravilliers, followed by, depending on the night, dancing at either Club Sandwich, Rosa Bonheur at les Buttes Chaumont park, Montana (if my friend Caroline gets her way) or BBB at Les Bains Douches.
