Trendsetter: Yale Breslin

By Robert Cordero

Native Torontonian Yale Breslin writes for various publications and online endeavors. With published works in Tokion, Wonderland, Man About Town, PonyStep, Hero, We Are The Market, and Lush, Breslin went on to launch his own online editorial publication titled The Malcolm. Now based in New York City, Breslin has continued to expand his portfolio by covering international fashion weeks for his roster of clients.

What’s hot now?
Right now, I am loving the Monocle x Comme des Garcons Scent One: Hinoki. It’s a perfectly subtle, yet recognizable woody scent, inspired by Japanese hot spring baths. Not overbearing in the slightest.

What is your favorite menswear item for summer?
This summer, I really like the Florsheim by Duckie Brown brogues. Nothing makes a statement more than a classic shoe with a modern update. Think mustard yellows and muted metallics fused with a historic shoe style. Steven Cox and Daniel Silver really brought their vision to the Floresheim brand–and gained some devoted followers along the way.

What’s the biggest menswear trend right now?
I like nothing more than a tailored blazer paired with a clean-cuffed, above-the-ankle short. It’s a perfect outfit to bring you from day to night, looking polished and on point. Perhaps a knit tie accompanied by a sleek tie clip. Definitely a sock free zone.
