Trendsetter: Lauren Sherman

By Robert Cordero

Before Lauren Sherman took the editorial reins at descriptively named Fashionista.com, she weighed in on the fashion and luxury world as a reporter for Forbes. She enjoys basking in her beautiful neighborhood of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, when not fixing her attention on the ever-evolving world of Manhattan style.

What’s hot now?
Despite the bad reviews, Pullino’s is still buzzing. All the Voguettes are wearing Costello Tagliapietra for Uniqlo. Jane is a favorite fashion-crowd spot. Henry Street Public is a cozy bar and restaurant in Cobble Hill. Burlap is a similarly cozy, brilliant store next to Henry Street Public, selling everything from Stella McCartney days-of-the-week knickers to Histoires de Parfums.

What are your favorite trends at the moment?
I love proper sailor shirts–I just picked one up at A.P.C. And despite the fact that Breton stripes are too trendy right now, they’ll always be classic to me. I also love maxi skirts for fall in a thick camel wool. Camel is a revelation.

What is the most essential summer item for women?
High-waisted silk shorts–you can dress them up and down. When in doubt, buy a size up for a more flattering fit.

  1. I love Lauren. Such an intelligent, insightful and smart gal. Pleasure to have spent time with her (albeit briefly), in Milan.
