Trendsetter: Arielle de Pinto

By Robert Cordero

What’s hot right now?
I was just in New Orleans and really inspired by the energy, parade culture and music, especially Sissy Bounce and Big Freedia.  I’m fascinated by flesh tones on flesh tones.  Clear things and shiny materials that shouldn’t be on fabric, cracking and shredding, becoming an inevitable beautiful mess.  So it’s little wonder I like Meadham Kirchoff.

Who are the best designers working in New York right now?
In New York, I always appreciate the work of A Detacher. I love the way that A Detacher works with leather, especially in shoes. It also feels so much like her collections are all part of a greater body of work, and much of that work feels like a collection and integration of objects more than a season to season re-vamp. I appreciate that in designers. She feels fresh without shocking, and confident in her own progression.

What are your favorite summer trends for men?
With the summer humidity, odors, and strong unsculpted bodies on display, I prefer men who are not overly concerned with their clothing but know how to take care of themselves.  I appreciate utilitarian clothing always.
