Trendsetter: Rosemin Manji

By Robert Cordero

A graduate of London College of Fashion/University of Arts with a BA in Fashion Management in Luxury Goods, Rosemin Manji spent over ten years working with luxury goods industry leaders such as Tom Ford, Alessandra Facchinetti, Frida Giannini, Juicy Coutire, Gucci, Prada and Burberry in London and Milan. She made her mark as European PR director of Juicy Couture, where she opened the first head office and showroom outside America and reintroduced the brand to key publications like Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Vanity Fair and Tatler while working with top Hollywood celebrities and tastemakers. Now a Dubai resident, Manji runs RR & Co. Bespoke Luxury Management, a consultancy that specializes in media relations, assisting regional buys and niche event for clients such as Christian Louboutin, Chanel, Tiffany, Givenchy and Tom Ford. She also continues her work as a stylist for private clients and is a contributor for Harpers Bazaar as well as for MTV.

What’s hot now?
The opening of Mall of Emirates Fashion Dome’s new luxury wing, with a massive Louis Vuitton store similar to the one in London and Christian Louboutin’s first Dubai boutique. I am loving Phoebe Philo’s collection for Celine—it is so chic and clean. My two favourite things for fall are animal print and the color camel. I wish I could pull off those fabulous high-waisted trousers from Chloe, but they just don’t work for me. Christian Louboutin’s Canonita heels are feminine and fabulous for my feet. Tom Ford’s lipstick in Plum is the perfect rich color to take me into fall—his lipsticks will have to do while I wait for his women’s line. I also can’t get enough of the lentil salad and possibly the best French toast ever at Le Petit Maison in London, so you can imagine how excited I am thats it’s opening in Dubai this December.

What are stylish people wearing in Dubai?
Louboutin! With the first Dubai boutique open in Mall of Emirates, we can all get our much awaited classics! Abayas by Das Collection. My favourite and most flattering Abayas. The designers always add beautiful details that make you stand out from the crowd—bows, sequences, draping. Cocktail parties in Oscar de la Renta. Local designer ESSA is making waves with ethnic accents and embellishments, and jumbo Chanel bags in every colur possible. Erdem print dresses, Preen, and Phillip Lim.

What’s your current staple item?
Cardigans in every color! It’s hot outside and cold inside, so you always need to be able to layer. I love Michael Kors’ cashmere cardigan, and I just bought a lovely leather trim Duffy cardigan from Net-a-Porter.

  1. I wouldn’t call those people “trendsetters” if all they know are brands from the ads of every mainstream magazine, how about some individuality, some risk-taking? jumbo Chanel bags in every color, how vulgaire….NEXT!
