Dr. Martens’ Design Challenge

By JC Report

Dr. Martens—or “Docs,” as they have become affectionately known—have withstood nearly 50 years of fluctuating fashion fads. As an icon of the underground British culture, the boots have moved from a punk staple in the days of the Sex Pistols to an edgy accessory worn by supermodels like Agyness Deyn. Much of this durability derives from the shoe’s simple strength, but every year Dr. Martens also gives artists, bands and fashion creatives the opportunity to make their mark on the beloved boot.

The DM Boot Design invites artists and designers the world over to design a pair of Dr. Martens. More than 25,000 people submitted entries this year and Canadian winner Danielle Meder’s design, “Colour Puddle Jump,” is now available to purchase online. With a panel of judges that consisted of the womenswear buyer for Urban Outfitters, accessories editor of Nylon and respected illustrator Daisy de Villeneuve, the winning entry represented the voice of the people and the heart of the industry.
