Bibi Ghost

By JC Report

Fluidity, modernism and artistry are all essential to designer Bibi Lowe’s creative vision. This young tastemaker is the powerhouse behind Bibi Ghost, her eponymous clothing label. With the success of her Fall/Winter 2008 collection, which debuted at Copenhagen Fashion Week not too long ago, the designer’s sophomore collection has reinstated our captivation with her simple and seemingly effortless feminine designs. Inspired by her surroundings and driven by a strong spirit of individualism, this fresh new label has put a unique twist on the allures of minimalism- putting her high on our list of names to watch for.

Ghost’s designs are deliciously understated; she uses sparse, yet poignant color palates and prints to compliment the simple draping of her garments. Blurring the lines between clothing and sculpture, Ghost creates interesting and unique silhouettes, which exude her line’s playful sophistication. For Ghost, each design is an exploration; nothing is too small or unimportant. The key, however, lies in the organic and polymorphous nature of the garments- each has the potential to reflect its wearer’s mood and personality as they see fit.

Her artistic and interactive design approach results in a truly interesting aesthetic, one that is both personal and within reach. Ghost’s obsession with contrasts blares loudly in her work; her collection boasts both minimalist cuts and sumptuous volume, a dark, dreary matureness mixed in with a playful light-heartedness. Her designs move beyond the scope of her clothing, creating a carefully crafted mood or narrative within which we are able to understand each collection. These fleeting installation-like pieces leave a favorable impression behind, and definitely set her designs a cut above the rest. For more information, visit www.bibighost.com
