Retail Watch: The Convenience Store Pops Up

By Retna Wooller

The vacant space of a former shoe repair shop on St. Martins Lane will become the location for the city’s latest pop-up boutique from the man behind The Convenience Store. The work of Andrew Ibi, this second incarnation will sell the wares of fashion’s here and now.

Footwear, accessories and stunning garments by Gareth Pugh, Hannah Marshall, Felder Felder, Rick Owens and Camilla Skovgaard will be displayed in small quantities as though in a local convenience store. The pieces on display have only formerly graced catwalks and glossy magazines, all who buy items here will be investing in near one-off collectibles.

Those in the know can also seek “under the counter” requests, which include special wares only unveiled upon request. Located in the front room of the St. Martins Lane Hotel, these handpicked niche and somewhat unconventional products—think Ann-Sofie Back goat suede fringe dress and Bruno Pieters cubist tailored suit—will not be readily available anywhere else, nor anytime soon. Open for only three weeks, you would be well advised to visit not long after it opens this Thursday night.

Shop location: 45 St. Martins Lane, London, WC2N 4HX
