Opening Ceremony’s Olympic Ceremony

By JC Report

Fire up those torches and break out the red, white and blue. Just because you can’t make it all the way to Beijing for the 08.08.08 Summer Olympics’ opening celebration doesn’t mean you can only partake from the couch. Teaming up with Nike Sportswear for a blowout celebration, innovative retailer Opening Ceremony brings the spirit of the games stateside. They will usher in the commencement of the Olympics with a boutique—fittingly dubbed Souvenir—inside their New York and Los Angeles locations this weekend.

Souvenir boasts a healthy choice of limited edition products. Opening Ceremony’s items include jewelry from Philip Crangi and Fallon as well as silk screen shirts from various artists, while Nike Sportswear gear features the original Air Max 1 sneaker, the technologically advanced LunaRacer sneaker and a specialized Nike Sportswear apparel collection of luxe hoodies and sweatshirts (made exclusively from vintage Japanese “loopwheel” machines). Those just passing through can bring home a little something to remember their experiences by with key chains, coin holders, towels, hats and umbrellas.

Customers are encouraged to munch on American classics such as hamburgers and ice cream, watch the Olympics coverage, shop Souvenir and even compete in sporting events such as “3am Scrabble Hour” or “7am Breakfast for Champions.” While the LA boutique will run on normal business hours, the New York version is open 24 hours, all weekend long. With enough patriotism and merchandise to fill up your weekend plans, every one can bring home a little piece of victory.
