Crovetti, the line’s unique pieces are each based on
reconstructive plates used to mend broken bones.
Crovetti was inspired by a trauma surgery he performed in which a
metal plate was bent to mend a bone. Noticing that the plates’ oval-lined texture made for
a unique look, he started wearing a bent
plate as a ring. Colleagues and patients immediately took notice. Requests
poured in from fellow doctors who wanted to express their work in
the form of jewelry, while patients, many of whom were athletes, wanted
to boast of surgeries resulting from extreme sports injuries.
Since then, Skeletal Metal has continued expanding and now includes a
women’s line, which is smaller and more delicate than the original
pieces. The recently introduced “Black” collection features slightly
gothic, varnished versions of the metal plates.
From the original ring to bracelets, earrings and cross-shaped
pendants, Skeletal Metal caters to the daredevil and the fashionista
alike. With the headquarters at Dr. Crovetti’s offices, the company
sells products all over Las Vegas and has
plans to launch in San Francisco, Phoenix and San Diego. If the
extreme edginess of Skeletal Metal doesn’t suffice, the products are
all priced reasonably between $99 and $209. Shockingly good.
