Loree Rodkin: Medieval Goth Meets Bohemian Chic

Loree Rodkin doesn’t need any more publicity. Her jewelry were worn by Michelle Obama at five key inauguration events while Madonna and Mary J. Blige each donned pieces for the Grammy’s, as did Virginia Madsen for the Academy Awards and Golden Globes, Cher for her “Believe” and “Farewell Tours” and even aging rockers Aerosmith. Known in Los Angeles for her gothic and medieval inspired diamond jewelry, Rodkin is on the path to international fame.

Since starting the line in 1989, Rodkin has maintained an upbeat philosophy: “There are no rules in jewelry, I like to push the envelope when it comes to design…handcrafted unique pieces are my forte. Change is the only constant.” This determined attitude toward jewelry is obvious in her fun, yet sophisticated pieces. With her jewelry already such a hit, Rodkin has also recently added fragrances and eyewear to her growing empire.

The pieces combine a sort of European edge with a Bohemian Los Angeles vibe, proving that Rodkin can appeal to many types of women. For the more fashion-forward hipsters, there are skulls, bones, chunky crosses and chains, while for more classic and elegant dressers can pick up more delicate pieces such as a fleur de lis, bangles, beaded bracelets and chandelier earrings. Among this varying range, Rodkin cites her bondage rings, earrings and stretch bracelets as the most successful item. “I was inspired to make my line because there was no irreverent, fun diamond jewelry on the market,” she admits. “I wanted to make things I wanted to wear.”
