People are optimistic — or rather, searching for optimism. This is
expressed in terms of a yearning for a "simpler" era, a sort of preppie
simplicity. In Palm Beach, you see loads of ribbon belts and shirt
dresses. And in New York, people are turning to color, they seem tired
of black. We’ve picked up on this (MAC is a fashion brand, after all),
and are reflecting these two trends in our collections: "Hipnotique,"
which is our most colorful collection in years, and "A Girl Next Door"
— sheerer blush and shiny lips — more of a "healthy glow."
