"I think that the most fashion-forward trends are those influenced by
form without fixating on size. The current jersey revolution
has really paved the way for voluminous shapes and comfortable fashion.
I seek out designers/labels like Sacai, Jeremy Laing,
and VPL, whose garments challenge conventional views of the body;
designers who fully scrutinize the human form but do not
confine themselves to the limitations of body contours. A tailored,
formfitting garment can be a masterpiece, but a garment
that challenges form through the abstraction of body contours and the
shifting of shapes is far more impressive conceptually,
and is by no means free from craft and attention to detail. Pop culture
and fashion have set the tone for a body-image-obsessed
and insecure public. We identify with what we wear, and what we wear
can often depict how we feel about ourselves, at least
physically. It is therefore essential to feel like you can express
yourself on an exterior level. Feeling self-confident warrants
more respect. If a designer can be attuned to the lines of any body,
not just a slim one, they will have a much more profound
and prolific impact."
