Anyone who survived the weekend's five-hour lines for a new iPhone 3G—and actually scored one before they sold out—is probably guarding their spoils with Fort Knox-worthy vigilance. Fortunately, two savvy design companies have created protective options that are far more chic than those plastic and rubber covers flanking the Apple store checkout.

Since its inception in 1997, Incase has merged interests in technology and street culture for a line of sleek bags and carrying cases that accommodate the full gamut of Apple gear. They've just introduced a range specifically for the iPhone 3G consisting of sleeves made from weightless neoprene or leather, a suede-lined, Nappa leather folio that totally envelops the device—protecting it from threatening pocket debris and rogue scratches, and next moth, a sleek slider case that's both lightweight and durable will make its debut.

For those whose tastes veer toward the outré, Gilty Couture specializes in covers that, according to its website, "allow privileged individuals the opportunity to create a wardrobe for their favorite Apple devices." These fortunate few are privy to covers plated in 14k gold and sterling silver, edged with handset Swarovski crystals and housed in the brand's signature "Wardrobe Box." We can't help but think of it as the tech equivalent of a tiara-clad Yorkie, but when it comes to a device that's coveted as much for style as substance, it's not surprising that the marketing machine has accounted for even the most extravagant of tastes.
