Chronicles of Never
February 26th, 2008 | Sydney
If you count yourself among the denim-obsessed, you've no doubt developed an appreciation for cultish Australian brand Ksubi, originally named Tsubi. One of that brand's co-founders, the winsome Gareth Moody, has since spun off Chronicles of Never, a unisex collection of apparel and accessories. And, no surprise, the Ksubi crowd are already raving about his "Chapter Two".Founded in 2006, this new company, whose acronym CON alludes to the magical qualities of both Narnia and Neverland, draws its inspiration from the fantasy world. To wit, Moody subtitled his Autumn 2008 collection—which adds denim, shoes and jewelry into the mix alongside the mainstay graphic T-shirts and jersey pieces—"The Black Forest in Tokyo". Working with silks, cottons and mohair, this season's lean, elongated silhouette introduces tailoring and knitwear in monochromatic colors like "half black" and "steel grey".
Moody has gone on record saying, "I don't do chic". Yet his collection is stocked by style-conscious retailers such as Selfridges in London and Seven in New York. And friend Marvin Jarrett, editor-in-chief of the hip mag Nylon, has photographed an earlier collection. As fashion launches go, Chronicles of Never is off to an appropriately fairy-tale start.
