Put A Record On: The Dead Weather Redefine The Supergroup

Musical supergroups pop up every other year or so, and most of the time the band members would have been better off staying in their original groups. But The White Stripes' Jack White has made himself a career from starting up new bands, and successfully taking them around the world. Following the success of The Raconteurs, his latest project, The Dead Weather, has come out blazing with debut album Horehound.



Vocalist Alison Mosshart is otherwise known as one half of The Kills (along with Kate Moss' boyfriend Jamie Hince), while Queens Of The Stone Age vet Jack Lawrence also joins in on guitar. White, who usually plays guitar, takes a step back this time around, acting as drummer on most songs and only occasionally helping out with vocals. The stage is left to Mosshart, who uses her distinctive voice to give life to the predominately bluesy sound.

Single "Hang You From The Heavens" signals a raw edge, and at times, almost inevitably, evokes The White Stripes. "Will There Be Enough Water," on the other hand, takes the tempo down significantly, showing a more reflective side of the band's sound. Jaxk White is a musical maverick for a new generation, and while most dream-teams fall short of expectations, he continues to exceed them.
