Love All for Björn Borg White
With Roger Federer sporting dapper duds on the courts of Wimbledon (disclosure: we're sad he lost to Rafael Nadal this past Sunday) and Ralph Lauren dressing the tournament's staff, tennis has never been this fashionable. And during Paris men's fashion week, one of the sport's legends, Björn Borg, served as inspiration for the design team behind the label that carries his name. Björn Borg White's s/s '09 menswear collection was as impressive as its namesake's famous backhand.
Though the understated, mostly monochromatic line nods to the tennis days of yore when players had to wear all white on the court, the svelte silhouettes and neutral color palette give the collection a vibrant modern edge. Color-blocked knit tops are worn over slim-fitting knit shorts with drawstring waists, and short suede and canvas jackets are casually slung over white cotton tees. Meanwhile, cotton tuxedo jackets with kissing button details and high-waisted pants bring a dressier look to the collection.
If Björn Borg White's presentation is any indication of what's to come, the label could leave an indelible mark on the sportswear market—just as its muse did with the French Open.
