Last year ended on an uncertain note. It was one of the most dismal retail years on record, which called for deep discounts everywhere and store closings from Tracey Ross to Linda Dresner. With consumers holding tight to their wallets, stockists were forced to cancel orders or return goods to designers, who then began to shutter planned runway shows (among them Vera Wang and Temperley). Now that we’re in a new season and fresh merchandise has arrived on store shelves, we hope the spring mindset may have shifted for the better. To find out, we descended on New York’s Soho to ask the few people we saw shopping: What are you buying?
On Broadway outside of Uniqlo, we ran into a young lass, who told us what she’s buying in these bleak times.
