In an attempt to appeal to a wider audience, UK designer Louis de Gama has announced the launch of LdG, a diffusion line that references designs from de Gama’s career archive. The cumulative pieces act as a catalog of de Gama’s brand for those who aren’t already in-the-know, bringing deserving perspective to the lush label.
The garments are simple on the outside, featuring subtle, functional details throughout. Covered buttons, geometric shapes and patched pockets built into narrow sleeves are beautifully combined to create a deceptively simple silhouette. The palette is monochrome, focusing on black and cream, with muted shades of green and beige thrown in as a compliment.
These days, the Portugese-born, East London-based designer is a busy man, having also recently opened his first brick-and-morter outpost in London. The store will carry the full Louis de Gama collection, including the diffusion line, with prices starting around £45-75. The rest of the label, which debuted at London Fashion Week in 2000, is currently available at select boutiques in London, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Dublin, Athens and Lisbon.
