Though they might still seem reminiscent of '80s boy bands and country singers to some of us, denim jackets are back in the limelight—largely due to the likes of Agyness and Kate, not to mention a few spring '08 runway shows. The trend's had a minute to trickle down to the High Street now, and we examine a few of the more affordable (yet chic) options.
Like Miss Deyn, you can embrace your inner Billy Idol and go stonewashed. Trusty
Topshop has more than one stone-cold style on offer (all at around £40), with our particular favorite being a super-slim number with cropped sleeves that would look great with a prom dress (à la Aggy) or with skinny trousers and oversized knitwear.
Mango has a similar version (for £31) available online or in store.
For a softer look, as demonstrated by Matthew Williamson on the
Pucci runway for spring '08, an oversized denim shirt looks great on its own, or over a plaid shirt or vest.
Wrangler has a super-soft denim shirt on offer for £55, and
Topman has a cute style for £28, which would also look gorgeously boyfriend-ish on you ladies.
Another option with denim is to go for a more fitted, tailored look, which works well with wide-legged trousers and yacht-club stripes.
Donna Karan showed tightly-tailored blazers in her s/s '08 collection, and
Diesel has a fabulous, zipped offering for £150.
Gap also has a chic, understated number in its European collection for £30 that's available online worldwide.
Whether opting for tailored or distressed though, our only word of warning with denim is this: Don't match it with blue jeans, or you really will look like a country singer.
