Inspired by both Eastern and Western cultures, SIRIVANNAVARI women’s spring/summer ’09 collection takes a nod from the current neo-rock trend while incorporating ethnic touches—Nariratana’s studies of traditional Thai costumes inspired the intricately braided silk detailing and Swarovski beading seen throughout the line. Classic rock references are also hard to miss with reinterpreted zipper graphics, studs, neons, blacks and metallics taking center stage on the mainly silk crêpe, silk chiffon, silk satin, lamé and leather collection. A frisky golden dress covered in fringe stands out among the cropped jackets, tight leather pants and form fitting minis, while a breezy, one-shouldered dress is perhaps the best representation of the designers desire to meld together the East meets West muse.
But while the Princess’ designs teeter toward the uninspired (her studded rendition of gladiator sandals look conspicuously like the Balmain pair, amongst other déjà-vu pieces), this is one hot young thing worth looking out for. Already creating a media frenzy, Sirivannavari’s fashion eye will be exciting to watch as she claims her spot in the fashion hierarchy. Grab the collection at retailers such as Trois Pommes in Switzerland, Club Designer in Taiwan or Confidentiel in France, and treat yourself like royalty.
