Beauty Guru: The Official Color of 2013

Geoffrey Rodriguez

In the spirit of Beauty Guru’s annual tradition, we are thrilled to announce that Pantone, the design industry’s leading authority on color, has officially announced that Emerald Green is the color of 2013. Just as enigmatic as Oz’s mystical city and as captivating as the covetable precious gem it’s named for, emerald is indeed a magical and mesmerizing color. While green is a color that we see most abundantly in nature, this familiar hue has visually healing and calming powers. From eye adorning products to nail varnish, we explore what is not simply the color of the year but a shade in color cosmetics that is fresh, exciting and very flattering to wear.

chinaglazeChinaglaze  Although eyes are the most obvious feature to enhance with this year’s official color, Chinaglaze’s Emerald Fitzgerald nail varnish is our top choice for translating the rich emerald hue to your hands. The brand also offers an amazing array of shades and finishes, each in the brand’s signature formulation, which contains china clay for added durability and shine. There are also several essential treatment formulations, and each of the brand’s products are free of carcinogenics.

janeJane Iredale
Jane Iredale, our favorite resource for high-performance mineral cosmetics, offers a great selection of eye shadows in the brand’s signature formulation, including a rich and very realistic emerald green. Ideal for sensitive eyes, Iredale’s formulations are also vegan and cruelty-free as well as long-wearing and crease-proof. Also inspired by gemstones is the Jewel Box cream eye-liner palette, which includes a rich emerald green as well as three other lovely jewel-tones.

macMAC
MAC Cosmetics is recognized globally as one of the best resources for innovative color cosmetics. And when it comes to impactful color, the brand offers a fantastic selection—emerald green certainly being no exception. The delightful Glitter, Pure Pigment and Superslick Liquid Eyeliner in “Treat Me Nice” beautifully express the rich hue in a lovely emerald green shade with a soft pearl finish.

Make Up For Ever
Yet another of our all time favorite resources for cutting edge, professional cosmetic formulations is the artistry label, Make Up For Ever. And while overall bold, vibrant color is always a major source of inspiration for the brand, there are three particular products on offer that stunningly emphasize this year’s shade of emerald green. The Smoky Lash mascara adds a hint of emerald green to the lashes, while the Aqua Liner in Emerald Green defines the eyes beautifully. And our favorite from the range is the waterproof Aqua Cream color in emerald.

maxMax Factor
On a global level, fewer brands have maintained as iconic an image as Max Factor has, and the brand continues to evolve while consistently delivering high-performance products. In keeping with this top-tier position, Max Factor’s Vivid Impact duo in Emerald Coast is our top pick for the perfect and most affordable way to express this year’s official color.

urbandecayUrban Decay
While there a variety of shades of green readily available on most commercial make-up ranges, Urban Decay’s recently re-vamped eye-shadow formulation in Loaded really conveys the rich emerald hue. This formula provides a smooth, velvety and long-wearing finish as well as a true color application. Overall, Urban Decay offers a full line of exciting fashion-forward color cosmetics that are worth exploring, including a selection of very clever make-up setting sprays as well as several vegan-friendly formulated products.
