Chiara Orlandini

chiaraOAbout Chiara:

Chiara is Italian-born and currently resides in New York City. A shoe designer by trade, she is driven by deep curiosity and is deeply in love with the craft.

What’s hot right now?

Time, care and craft. I’m kind of sick of fast fashion and would like to enhance visibility and power around contemporary, modern design produced in a heartfelt way, like artists or industrial designers were doing in the seventies, working in and for industries near craftsmen. I work in fashion, and it’s so fast that we should stop more and think about it. Art, history, and niche designers proved that. Learn a technique, breathe it, work around it, and create a serious vision. Timeless beauty is not for free, effort is required of those who make it and buy it. Fashion is not what everyone believes in. It might just be your vision of proportions.

What was the most fashionable thing you last bought?

A slim carabiner with a self screw, I bought it in Tokyo. I’ll never lose my keys that are attached to my pants.

What destination are you most looking forward to traveling to right now?

Marrakech or America on two wheels made by Triumph in 1978, and a palace where my love can enjoy professional massages anytime of the day.

What’s on your style wish list?

My next designed shoe, a tumbled python boot. I’ve been waiting for six months.

What’s on heavy rotation in your wardrobe currently?

Coats! Yojii wool or Uniqlo which is puffy, fun, and functional. Also a black jersey signature jacket made to measure by BLUME, slim fit black pants, light jersey Zara t-shirt, Calvin Klein Collection box calf elastic bootie and a perforated matte black satchel, goes with everything.
