While growing up in the British countryside, Felicity Carter was always lured by the glittery lights of the city and world of couture. After studying literature at university, she pursued her dream of working in the fashion industry with a job in fashion PR. Carter held a manager position for a designer accessories label, while expanding her repertoire by covering the industry for magazines like Dazed and Confused, Fault and i-D and offering art direction for magazine editorials. In May of 2011, Carter set up Felicity Carter PR, a London-based company that represents the best emerging luxury, aspirational and creative urban talents from designer Olima Atelier to rock ‘n roll photographer Brad Elterman to NYC graffiti artist Charlie Green.
What’s hot right now?
London designers and bold collections: Tim Rhys-Evans (avant-garde gothic luxury), Matthew Harding, Tze Goh, Osman Yousefzada, Emilio de la Morena. Stateside designers: OLIMA, Sang A, Altuzarra, Mandy Coon (need the a/w red-and-black leather dress). Burak Uyan and his amazing shoes (he gets the sassy cool combination just right). Charlie Green and Antony Micallef’s installations (the Aquarian in me loves the arty archaic freedom). Major hotness for rock ‘n roll photography—Brad Elterman will forever be hot. His new book Like It Was Yesterday shows old school photos of Dylan, Bowie, KISS and The Runaways (what’s not hot about that?!). Groupie status is definitely hot and on my summer to do list. Fashion photographers Tung Walsh and Matt Irwin. Des vents contraires, out in September, starring Marie Ange Casta (younger sister of Laetitia Casta) and Audrey Tautou. New hotter than hot NYC glam-punk magazine Lovecat, and their fashion editor Brett Bailey’s styling. The scorcher Self Service cover featuring Lara Stone. Paz de la Huerta. My eclectic summer music mixes: Suzi Quatro, Prince, Morrissey (“King Leer”), Human League, Clash, Dusty Springfield, Bob Marley, Stones (taken as a given), The Kills, Chaka Khan, MJ, Jones Girls, AC/DC, Eurythmics, Lykke Li and obscure French music that has found its way on there.
What’s your favorite look from the most recent resort collections?
I don’t really do resort collections (I’ve always associated them with uptown NYC ladies that do lunch). Having said that, Celine’s gorgeous electric blue sets my heart aflutter, and their black and white stripe suit—a pajama-cum-Beetlejuice homage—is amazing. Definitely on my shopping list.
What’s in your summer wardrobe?
My dress of the summer is the OLIMA sheer gown—it’s incredible and I’d wear it anywhere. Life’s too short not to enjoy fashion whenever, wherever. To be honest my wardrobe will be the same as a/w ’10, but shorter, sheerer and with shades (Cutler&Gross)!
